The 8-hour, 16-hour and 12-hour HCSSA training a hospice administrator needs — plus a recertification surveyor and an eligibility surveyor to rehearse with.
Before designation as an administrator or alternate administrator, you must complete 8 clock hours of initial training covering topics specified in §558.259(c), including HCSSA licensing standards, client rights and responsibilities, emergency preparedness, and complaint investigation procedures. Within your first 12 months in the role, you must complete an additional 16 clock hours of training per §558.259(d). After your first year, you must complete 12 clock hours of continuing education annually per §558.260.
A hospice is licensed and surveyed under 26 TAC Chapter 558, and a Medicare-certified hospice is also surveyed against the Medicare Hospice Conditions of Participation at 42 CFR Part 418 — the part that carries, among much else, the emergency preparedness plan with documented exercises at 42 CFR §418.113. An unannounced recertification survey opens on the census and the twelve-month admission count, because those set the record sample.
The standard request list includes the current patient list with election dates and levels of care, the twelve-month live-discharge and deceased lists, Form CMS-417 and Form CMS-643 back within the hour, the IDG meeting schedule and where the minutes live, the grievance and complaint log, hospice aide training and competency records, and the QAPI program activities.
